Pro. John Hopcroft, Turing Award winner, visited JLU with his wife on December 27^th-29^th, 2014. Some teachers and students on 28^th escorted Mr. & Mrs. Hopcroft and their minders on a tour of the city, Changchun. Wei Xiaohui, dean of CCST, gave an interview to Mr. Hopcroft at café in computer building before his lecture entitled Future Directions in Computer Science Research, in which Hopcroft pointed out the problems and deficiencies in computer science research in the past and brought forward some important proposals concerned in the future. After the lecture, a ceremony honoring Pro. Hopcroft a visiting professor of JLU was held, hosted by Li Meihua, deputy director of Department of International Affairs, JLU; appeared at the ceremony Wu Zhenwu, vice president of JLU, Wei Xiaohui, Zheng Shuang, secretary, CP, Ouyang Jihong, vice dean of CCST. Wei introduced Hopcroft’s background and experience; Wu presented the letter of appointment and made a welcome speech, in which he mentioned that JLU would give more support to Hopcroft, whose employment would bring a freshness and new opportunity to computer science and technology. Hopcroft expressed his pleasure to be a visiting professor of JLU. Afterwards, Pro. Hopcroft and faculties of CCST had a discussion about future directions in computer science and reforms in computer educational system, hoping to further their cooperation.
