Wang Xianghao (1915-1993), the founder of the Computer Science Department of Jilin University, was born in 1915 in Anping, Hebei Province. He graduated from Peking University in 1937, and studied at Princeton University with the research direction of Modern Algebra in 1946 by the U.S. State Department grants. Received master's and doctoral degrees in 1947 and 1949. During this time, he has shaken the Algebraic Number Theory by publishing "A counter-example to Gruwald's theorem". The publication led "Dickson's conjecture" became conjecture again; the error in Gruwald's theorem was corrected and Gruwald-Wang theorem was introduced. This achievement was an international sensation in the mathematical community, its conclusion was dubbed internationally as "classical result on this issue". He was a world-renowned mathematician and a member of the department of mathematics and science of Chinese Academy of Science since 1955. In 1952 and 1976, he founded the Department of Mathematics and Department of Computer Science in Jilin University. He had made world-class achievements in the field of automata theory and multi-valued logic theory. He was the first in the country to carry out research in artificial intelligence, and became the standard-bearer of artificial intelligence research. He was former vice president of Jilin University; central committee of China Democratic League; head of the commuter science academic degrees committee of the State Council; vice president of China Computer Federation. Academician Wang Xianghao had made lifelong dedication and outstanding contribution to China's science and technology education and the construction of Jilin University.
