In 1976, the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wang XiangHao founded the Computer Science Department of Jilin University.

In 1981, the department gained the right to grant doctoral diploma of Computer Software to qualified candidates, which was one of the first in China.

In 1985, the department founded the post-doctoral research center, which was one of the first in China.

In 1987, the college's Computer Software and Theory discipline was testified as the national key discipline.

In 1993, the department founded the Opening Lab Symbolic Computation and Knowledge Engineering, which was attached to National Education Committee.

In 1997, the department was granted the privilege to establish the subject of Sign, Numerical Value & Information Engineering, which was key Discipline in 211 "Ninth-Five year" project.

In 1998, the department gained the right to grant doctoral degree of Applied Technology of Computer to qualified candidates.

In 1999, the department was permitted to establish Key Lab Computer Communications Ministry of information industry.

In 2000, the department gained the right to grant doctoral diploma of Computer Science and Technology (a first level discipline) to qualified candidates.

In 2001, the computer departments from four universities were merged to establish the College of Computer Science and Technology, Jilin University.

In 2001, the university was permitted to build the National Pilot College of Software.

In 2002, the college was permitted to establish the discipline of Computer and Software Science and Information Processing, which was key discipline in 211 "Tenth-five year" project.

In 2002, the discipline of Computer Software and Theory was re-confirmed as the national key discipline.

In 2002, the discipline of Applied Technology of Computer was testified as key discipline of Jilin Province.

In 2003, the National Pilot College of Software of Jilin University passed the Ministry of Education mid appraisal.

In 2004, the college was permitted to build the "985" (second period schedule) S&T innovation platform of "Computing and Software Science".

In 2005, the college was permitted to establish the National Linux Technology Training and Development Center.

In 2006, the college gained the right to grant master and doctoral degree of Bioinformatics, and the right to grant master degree and bachelor degree of Network and Information Security.

In 2006, the disciplines of Computer Software and Theory, Applied Technology of Computer was re-confirmed as key disciplines of Jilin Province, and Computer Architecture was testified as key discipline of Jilin Province.

In 2006, the college was permitted to establish Key Lab of New Technology of Software of Jilin Province and Engineering Research Center of Network Technology and Applied Software.

In 2006, the National Pilot College of Software of Jilin University passed the final appraisal by Ministry of Education.

In 2006, The Key Laboratory of Symbolic Computation and Knowledge Engineering of Ministry of Education passed the assessment by the Ministry of Education.

In 2006, the college established the branch Laboratory of Symbolic Computation and Knowledge Engineering in Zhuhai.

In 2007, the college established the Computer Base Experiment Teaching Center of higher education of Jilin Province, the Engineering Research Center of Network Technology and Applied Software of Ministry of Education and the Jilin University-University of Georgia Joint Research Center for System Biology.

In 2007, the discipline of Computer Software and Theory was re-confirmed as the national key discipline.

In 2008, a key laboratory of the Ministry of Education for national defense was established.   

In 2008, the laboratory of New Biological Identification Technology was established as Jilin provincial key laboratory.

In 2008, the three key disciplines, such as "software science and intelligent information processing" and "bioinformatics, molecular/nanomedicine and plant stress regulating" etc., were established in the "211 Project" of the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period.

In 2008, the Key Lab of New Technology of Software of Jilin Province and the Computer Base Experiment Teaching Center passed the mid appraisal.

In 2009, Jilin Provincial Training Base for Information Safety under State Research Center of Anti-Computer-Intrusion and Anti-Virus was established.

In 2009, the "985" (second period schedule) S&T innovation platform of 'Computing and Software Science' passed the appraisal by the outstanding result.

In 2010, the college established the Center of High Performance Computing of Jilin University.

In 2010, the college was permitted to build the“985”innovation platform of “novel technique for software and network, and biological computing”.

In 2013, the college was permitted to build the “Engineering Research Center of  High Performance Computing of Jilin Province (Jilin University), and the “Engineering Laboratory of Electronic Commerce of Jilin Province”.
