Computer Software and Theory

Knowledge Science and Knowledge Engineering

Research summary: In the field of Knowledge Engineering and Expert System, the team focuses on the theory and technology of uncertainty reasoning, cooperation methods of multi-expert systems, learning and reasoning of Bayesian Network, knowledge base refinement, Multi-evidence fusion and multi-methods integration. In the field of Spatio-temporal Knowledge Processing: the team focuses on modeling of complex spatial relation, processing uncertain spatio-temporal information, spatio-temporal logic, spatio-temporal data mining, processing of spatio-temporal semantics. In the field of Data Mining and Complex Networks, the team focuses on the mining methods of complex data, like huge data, multi-source data, multi-relational data, dynamic and uncertainty data, deep combination of learning and inference, analysis methods of complex network structures and dynamic, data mining and machine learning methods for social network and social network. In the field of Distributed Artificial Intelligence and Agent Systems, the team focuses on agent systems and architectures of intelligent agent, formalized modeling of mobile agent, complex task solving based on Agent. The team is one of the teams that study the above four fields at the earliest. It promotes the level of research and application on Intelligence Reasoning and Intelligence System in China.

The team has successfully undertaken more than 50 scientific research projects at national, provincial and ministerial levels, among which "863" projects and NSFC (National Nature Science Foundation of China) projects are more than 20; published 8 books and more than 500 papers in journals and international conferences, including more than 300 SCI and EI cited articles. The research had won one second prize and one third prizes of the National S&T Progress Award, three first prizes, four second  prizes, and three third  prizes of the Provincial and ministerial S&T progress Award, two first  prizes of the Changchun City S&T Progress Award, two national patents, one second Prize of State-level Teaching Award, two first Prizes of Province-level Teaching Award, one second prize of Ministry-level Award for Excellent Textbook of Colleges and Universities. The team is also awarded the National Top Quality Course, and outstanding team in educational system of Jilin Province.

 

Intelligent Information Processing

The laboratory is mainly concerned with scientific research and software developing, including intelligent planning and automated reasoning, model-based diagnosis, constraint reasoning and solving, configuration modeling and solving, and intelligent decision supporting system, model-checking, semantic web and ontology, multi-media technologies, and verification technologies of network security protocol.

The research results have been in the leading position of our country. Two persons are supported by Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of the Ministry of Education. The lab has been overtaking nearly 20 NSFC projects, now takes on three NSFC projects, four projects of Jilin Province, four projects of software developing and published more than 400 papers. The faculties of the lab take courses such as the principle of Artificial Intelligence and computability and complexity for undergraduate, Discrete Mathematics for graduate which selected as elaborate course by the Ministry of Education, and obtained the National Teaching Group Data Structure and Discrete Mathematics Teaching Group.

Software Theory and Techology

This laboratory mainly focuses on New Network Oriented Software Development Methodologies, Semantic Web, Program Analysis, Programming Languages and their Implementation Techniques, Supporting Technology for Software of High Confidence, Concurrent Semantics, Software Inspection and so on.

It has successfully accomplished 6 projects funded by "863" High-tech research and development program and National Natural Science Foundation, 3 projects funded by National Education Ministry for Doctoral Base Foundation, 2 provincial projects, 7 cooperation projects, 7 projects on reform of instruction methods at provincial or university levels. About 200 papers, 13 text books and 4 academic works have been published. The faculties of the group have been teaching courses as Formal Semantics” and Program Analysis” for postgraduates, and Advanced Programming” and Compiler Principlesfor undergraduates. The course of Advanced Programming” was awarded as National Level Excellent Course; the course of Compiler Principles” was awarded as Excellent Course of Jilin University, of Jilin Province and of Ministry of Education-Microsoft. The faculties of each course have won Excellence of Teaching Group Awards of Jilin Province, and won several other provincial prizes.

Software Engineering

As one of the most important research directions, the main research interests of software engineering at Jilin University are trusted computing, software architecture centric internetware technology, cloud service development and management in cloud computing environment, software security engineering, component technology, software reuse and service oriented architecture, software maintenance and dynamic evolution, software refactoring, object-oriented software testing, agent based software development, software engineering environment and computer aided software engineering, semantic web technology, automatic semantic annotation, and information integration, etc.

In recent years, members of this group have accomplished 4 National Key Problem Projects and National Natural Science Foundation Projects, and have published more than 60 papers in national core journals or international conference proceedings.

Database and Web Intelligence

The main research area covers database theory, machine learning, data/web mining and web search engine.

The team had accomplished NSFC program Active object oriented database system based on Petri net” (1997-1999), Jilin provincial scientific development program Research and implementation of the second generation web search engine(2000-2003), NSFC programIncremental mobile topic-specific crawling” (2004-2006). Now we are undertaking NSFC research program Ontology-Based Deep Web search technology” (2010-2012), NSFC program Semi-supervised ontology construction based on active learning(2010-2012), Ministry of Education of China specialized research foundation for the doctoral program of higher education (2009-2011), Jilin provincial scientific development program (2007-2009). More than 140 research papers have been published in international conferences or key Chinese journals such as the "Journal of Software", 60 of which are cited by SCI/EI/ISTP. We have also published 5 books, and received 5 national/departmental awards.

Database and Intelligent Network

The main research area covers Database Theory and Application Technology, Data Mining Theory and Method, Network Computing and Big Data Problem.

The laboratory has undertaken two National Scientific and Technological Projects, one National "863" Project, one National Technology-support project, six NSFC projects, and over ten projects of Ministry of Science, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Public Security, etc. The laboratory was awarded second class prize of Progress in National Science once, first class prize in Scientific and Technological Progress of the Ministry of Machinery Industry once, and many other provincial and ministerial rewards, more than 260 academic papers have also been published.

The teaching work focuses on the building of database programs, including the principle of database (awarded excellent course from Ministry of Education and IBM), database and security, object-oriented database, and distributive database. Database teaching team was awarded the excellent teaching team of Jilin Province. Database Principle was awarded the excellent course of the Ministry of Education-IBM, and Jilin Province.

Computer Application Technology

Computational Intelligence

The main research area covers the theories, models and algorithms related to neural networks, fuzzy systems and evolutionary computation, as well as the application of computational intelligence in bioinformatics, biometric identification, machine gustation, image processing, electronic commerce, data mining, business intelligence, intelligent transportation, modern logistics, etc.

In the past five years, the laboratory has carried out 1 project of Key Research Program of NSFC, 8 NSFC projects, 1 project funded by the National Key Science and Technology Development Program of Tenth Five-Year Plan, four "863" projects, 15 provincial & ministerial projects, and many other industry funded projects. The laboratory was awarded 1 special class, 2 first class, and 4 second class Science and Technology Progress Awards at provincial and ministerial levels. More than 300 academic papers have been published by researchers in the laboratory, of which more than 80 papers are indexed by SCI and more than 90 are indexed by EI. The publications have been cited more than 600 times by journals. Up till now, the laboratory has published 2 academic books, obtained 1 national invention patent and 8 software copyrights. In 2012, the team was awarded the Innovation Team of Business Intelligence of Jilin Province.

Computer Graphics & Digital Media

The laboratory is currently focusing on: computer rendering and animation, online gaming, point-based modeling and rendering, fundamental theory and algorithm of surface blending in geometric modeling, fractal and computer generating, content based multimedia retrieval, reconstruction of 3D images of fundus and medical image processing, super-resolution reconstruction and image registration, streaming media compression, coding, decoding, and transmission using proxy cache, development of the platform of applying clustering analysis methods in 3D model retrieval, analysis and organization of 3D model database based on clustering analysis, etc.

Since the beginning of 1980s, the laboratory has conducted education, research and development activities concerning computer graphics and digital media. It has carried out8NSFC projects, 12 provincial and ministry projects, and more than 20 other projects in the past 5years. The laboratory has published more than 210 papers including more than 90 indexed by SCI, EI and ISTP and4textbooks.

 

Image Processing and Virtual Reality

The main research fields of the laboratory are: image processing and applications which includes digital watermarking, image retrieval, medical image processing, image-based rendering, 3D reconstruction based on image sequences; Virtual Reality and applications which includes simulation of virtual environment, simulation of natural scene and collision detection; Pattern recognition and machine visionconstrained geometry modelingmultimedia techniques; etc.

In the recent years, the laboratory has carried out 4 projects funded by the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China ("863" Program), 3 sub-projects from the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), one project of national key science and technology program, 7 projects supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China, 2 Specialized Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education, 2 projects sponsored by the Scientific Research Foundation for the Returned Overseas Chinese Scholars, State Education Ministry, 6 projects funded by the Provincial and National Departments, and many other industry funded projects. More than 400 academic papers have been published by researchers in the laboratory, of which more than 30 papers are indexed by SCI, 200 are indexed by EI and 80 are indexed by ISTP. Some papers published in international journals and domestic authoritative journals,such as Image and Vision Computing, Computers & GraphicsJournal of Multimedia Tools and ApplicationsComputer Science and Information Systems, which were cited many scholars. Up till now, the laboratory has published 3 academic books, obtained 1 national invention patent and 7 software copyrights. In the past five years the laboratory was awarded some national prizes including the first class of Scientific and Technical Advancement of National Business, second prize of the Scientific and Technical Advancement of State Education Commission, the third class of Scientific and Technical Advancement of China Machinery Industry and some Science and Technology Progress Awards of Jilin Province.

Intelligent Engineering

The main research fields of the laboratory include theories, models and algorithms of machine learning and computational intelligence, their applications on combinational optimization, data mining, ultrasonic motor control, MEMS modeling, economic time series prediction, bioinformatics and systems biology. Specifically, the current works are related to artificial neural networks, fuzzy systems and evolutionary computation, particle swarm optimization, artificial immune algorithm, prediction methods of protein structures and functions, analysis of gene expression dada, etc.

During recent 6 years, the laboratory has been responsible for 1 project funded by National High-tech R&D Program of China ("863" Program), 7 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation and 10 projects funded by the provincial and national departments. The laboratory was awarded 3 first class Science and Technology Progress Awards of Jilin Province. The laboratory has published 3 books, obtained 3 national invention patents, more than 300 papers that more than 100 papers were indexed by SCI and more than 150 were indexed by EI. The published papers were cited more than 3,000 times where three of these papers have been cited more than 110 times in Web of Science or Scopus dataset.

Mobile Communications Technology and Network System

The main research areas of the laboratory include mobile computing network theory and applications, mobile IP technology and QoS mechanism, network management and network security, trustworthy networks and complex networks, wireless sensor networks, PKI, Web Service, key technologies and services of the next generation Internet, Distributed/Parallel computing system, communication protocol and interfaces, network facility, network communication software, etc.

The laboratory has completed 1 project supported by National Key Technologies Program, 3 "863" projects, 4 NSFC projects, 20 provincial and national projects and a few industry projects. It has been awarded with 11 Science and Technology Progress Award at provincial and ministerial levels. The on-going projects of the laboratory include 1 special fund project supported by National Development and Reform Commission, 1 international joint project, 1 project supported by Ministry of Science and Technology Innovation Foundation, 1 NSFC project, 1 supported by the Doctoral Programs Foundation of the Ministry of Education, etc. The laboratory has published 8 textbooks and more than 200 papers.

Intelligent Control and Embedded Systems

The main research interests of the team includes distributed embedded system, networked embedded systems security, networked control technology and real-time signal transmission, hardware software co-design of embedded systems, fault self-diagnosis and fault tolerance, pervasive computing, intelligent control technology, intelligent detection, multimedia technology, opt-electronic hybrid information processing technology, in-vehicle control systems and information systems, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

The laboratory has carried out 3 project funded by National "863" High-Tech Programs and other programs, 2 NSFC projects and 8 projects funded by the provincial and ministerial departments. The laboratory was awarded with 4 Science and Technology Progress Award at provincial and ministerial levels, published more than 100 papers and 8 textbooks.

Computer Spatial Information Processing Technology

The main research areas of the laboratory include the collection, measurement, analysis, storage, management, visualization, transmission and application of spatial data; an integrated way of the information science and technology base on 3S, integrated with computer technology and communication technology. It incorporates the penetration and integration of multi-subjects, and emphasize particularly on the application of computer technology.

The laboratory has carried out 5 "863"projects,2 NSFC projects and 30 projects funded by the provincial and ministerial departments. The laboratory was awarded with 6 second class and 10 third class Science and Technology Progress Award at provincial and ministerial levels and published more than 100 papers and 4 books.

Computer Architecture

Grid Computing and Network SecurityDistributed System and Network Software

The main research areas of the laboratory include cluster OS and its application in distributed/parallel computing and server clusters, grid computing, Internet and its application on IP phone, VPN and e-commerce/government, etc.

We have completed five projects supported by National Key Technologies R&D Program, three "863" High-tech R&D projects, six NSFC projects, two projects supported by Education Ministry Doctor R&D Program, three projects supported by Jilin Province Science Foundation and many industry delegation projects. The on-going projects include one NSFC key project, one NSFC project, one project supported by Jilin Province Outstanding Young Researcher Program, one international joint project (with Platform Inc., Canada). We published nine books and more than 100 papers. The laboratory was awarded with one Electronic Ministry special class award, one National Education Ministry second class award, three National Education Ministry third class awards, one Jilin Province second class award and three Jilin Province third class awards. We holds one American patent and four Chinese software copyrights. Two group members are selected into the New Century Talent Project of National Education Ministry. The course Computer Network” is one of the National Outstanding Courses. The course team was awarded the Outstanding Teaching Team of Jilin province and won a second-class award of high education of Jilin province. The laboratory is one of the leading groups in the area of the cluster operating system and Internet in China.

 

Grid Computing and Network SecurityInformation Security

The laboratory is one of the earliest and the leading groups that engaging in the research and development of PKI.

The main research areas include intrusion detection system: intrusion tolerance, alert correlation, computer forensic, security visualization, security situation awareness, deep packet inspection, attack source trackback, worm detection; security of web servers; cryptographic: PKI, identity based encryption.

We have completed 20 projects funded by the national "973" program, National Scientific and Technologies Support Program, NSFC and key Scientific and Technologies Support Program of Jilin province. We have published more than 70 papers of which 40 are indexed by SCI, ISTP and EI. The certification system of digital certificate SRQ05 occupies more than seventy percent proportion in domestic market based on the statistical data of China Electronic Commerce Institute. The Fujian province digital certificate system project we conducted won the first class prize in scientific and technological progress of national cryptograph. We also won a first class science innovations award of China Association of Commerce and one third class science and technology progress award of Jilin province.

 

Computer Supported Cooperative Work Technology

The main research areas of the laboratory include Cooperative Computing, Collaborative Communication Technology, Software Cooperation Technology, Software Programming Method, Software Component Technology, Software Reliability Analysis and Optimization; Computer Network and Communication, Network Security and Management, Distribution Computing; Computer Military Simulation Technology, Embedded System Technology, Femtosecond Laser Controlling Technology, Virtual Reality Technology.

The research group has carried out 21 national projects (including "863" programs, National key Technology R&D programs and National Natural Science Foundation projects), 20 province and ministry projects, 45 national defense projects, 2 international joint projects and more than 20 enterprise cooperation projects. In recent years, the group published more than 160 papers in important journals and international conferences, of which 131 papers have been indexed by SCI, EI and ISTP, published 7 books and textbooks, holds 5 invention patents and 11 software copyrights. The group has been awarded with 3 first prizes of province award for science and technology achievements, 2 second prizes and 1 third prize of ministry award for science and technology achievements, and 1 second prize of award for science and technology achievements of Changchun city. More than 230 post doctors, doctoral students and master students graduated from this team.

 

Telecommunication Software and Protocol Engineering

The main research fields of the laboratory include theory and software technology of communication network intelligence managementperception telecommunication, self-adapted affair, redeployed network and visualization; intelligent network management in the circumstance of telecommunication network; key technology research of wireless mobile communication and services; research of next generation services foundation and key productions on wireless mobile communication; wireless sensor network; the protocol, model and primary technology of next generation network (NGN) with IP as its kernel; integral imaging.

The laboratory has carried out more than 20 ministries and provinces projects, including 2 NSFC projects, 1 projects supported by Education Ministry Doctor R&D Program and 3 momentous projects of ministries. The funding total exceeds ten millions RMB. We have been awarded with 2 third class Science and Technology Progress Award of Jilin Province, 1 second class award of Teaching Achievements, 1 first class provincial award of teaching software and 1 first class Teaching Achievements award of Jilin University. In recent years, we have published 2 books and more than 80 papers, of which 5 were indexed by SCI, 21 were indexed by EI, 25 were indexed by ISTP.

 

Biological Information Recognization and Information Security

The main research fields of the laboratory include bioinformatics, pattern identification, image processing, spam behavior identification technology, PDM, information security technology based on combining biological feature with digital watermarking, the DEM analysis models based on the machine parts' CAD models(CAD software's drawings).

The laboratory has carried out 8 projects supported by national foundations, 7 projects funded by the provincial and ministerial departments, 4 projects funded by other departments, and many enterprise projects. It has been awarded with 2 first class, 2 special class and 1 third class Scientific and Technological Awards at provincial and ministerial levels, holds 7 national patents. In recent years, we have published 1 book and more than 110 papers including more than 40 papers indexed by SCI,EI and ISTP.

 

Wireless Sensor Networks and Ambient Intelligence

The main research interests of the laboratory include Wireless Sensor Networks, Internet of Things, and ambient intelligence technologies, including intelligent sensing, authentic communication, applications and it's supporting technique.  Recently, we devote in the WSN MAC protocols and routing protocols, streaming transport over WSN, localization and time synchronization algorithms, security strategy, data fusion for WSN; we also participate in the WSN application projects, such as WSN-based Automatic Meter Reading system, mine safety monitoring system, smart home.

In the recent years, the laboratory has carried out several NSFC projects and other provincial and ministerial departments. The laboratory was awarded with 3 Science and Technology Progress Award at provincial and ministerial levels and published more than 60 papers on the area.
