The main research area covers the theories, models and algorithms related to swarm intelligence, machine learning, data mining, as well as the application of big data, cloud computing and embedded technology techniques in electronic commerce, modern logistics, knowledge management, bioinformatics, biometric identification, behavior identity, etc..

In the past five years, the laboratory has carried out 5 projects of Research Program of NSFC, two "863" projects, 1 National Technology-support project, 1 project supported by Doctoral Programs Foundation of the Ministry of Education, 12 provincial & ministerial projects, and many other industry funded projects. The laboratory was awarded 4 first class, and 1 second class Science and Technology Progress Awards at provincial and ministerial levels. More than 300 academic papers have been published by researchers in the laboratory, of which more than 80 papers were indexed by SCI and more than 90 are indexed by EI. The publications have been cited more than 600 times by journals. Up till now, the laboratory has published 3 academic books, obtained 3 national invention patent and 17 software copyrights. The team was awarded “the Innovation Team of Business Intelligence of Jilin Province” in 2012 and “the Innovation Team of Jilin Universities” in 2015. In 2013, the team has gotten approval of the construction of the Jilin Provincial Laboratory of Key Supporting Technology Engineering on E-business. The faculties of the laboratory have taken multiple courses such as “Computational Intelligence”, “Big Data and Application”, “Introduction to E-Commerce”, “Principles of Computer Organization”, “Java Programming”, “Computer Architecture”, etc..
