The main research areas of the laboratory include mobile computing network theory and applications, mobile IP technology and QoS mechanism, network management and network security, trustworthy networks and complex networks, wireless sensor networks, PKI, Web Service, key technologies and services of the next generation Internet, Distributed/Parallel computing system, communication protocol and interfaces, network facility, network communication software, etc..

The laboratory has completed 1 project supported by National Key Technologies Program, 3 "863" projects, 4 NSFC projects, 20 provincial and national projects and a few industry projects. It has been awarded with 11 Science and Technology Progress Award at provincial and ministerial levels. The on-going projects of the laboratory include 1 special fund project supported by National Development and Reform Commission, 1 international joint project, 1 project supported by Ministry of Science and Technology Innovation Foundation, 2 NSFC project, 1 supported by the Doctoral Programs Foundation of the Ministry of Education, etc.. The laboratory has published 8 textbooks and more than 200 papers.
