The main research fields of the laboratory include bioinformatics, pattern identification, image processing, spam behavior identification technology, PDM, information security technology based on combining biological feature with digital watermarking, the DEM analysis models based on the machine parts' CAD models (CAD software's drawings).

The laboratory has carried out 8 projects supported by national foundations, 7 projects funded by the provincial and ministerial departments, 4 projects funded by other departments, and many enterprise projects. It has been awarded with 2 first class, 2 special class and 1 third class Scientific and Technological Awards at provincial and ministerial levels, holds 7 national patents. In recent years, we have published 1 book and more than 110 papers including more than 40 papers indexed by SCI,EI and ISTP.
