    Title: Wireless Information and Energy Cooperation

    Abstract:

    The world is going wireless and mobile but not energy transferring yet, at least not at a reasonably long distance and for our beloved everyday companion – mobile phones! Researchers from both academia and industries have put much effort in achieving this goal. Starting from some introduction of the basics of wireless power transfer (WPT) covering its applications and principles the Talk moves on to a brand new and more exciting field of wireless information and energy cooperation, i.e., transmitting information and energy simultaneously and wirelessly. Again some basic principles are presented here including the theoretical upper and lower bounds for energy consumption used by information delivery. Finally the Talk presents a fair power splitting algorithm proposed by the Speaker and his Team.

     

    Short bio: Kun Yang  obtained his PhD from the Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering of University College London (UCL), UK, and his MSc and BSc degrees were both from Jilin University. He is currently a Chair Professor and the Head of Network Convergence Laboratory (NCL) in the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, University of Essex, UK. Before joining in University of Essex at 2003, he worked at UCL on several EU research projects such as FAIN, MANTRIP, CONTEXT in the area of IP network management, active networks and context-aware services. Now his main research interests focus on heterogeneous wireless networks, future Internet architecture and its technologies such as network virtualization, software defined networking (wired and wireless), smart grid, etc. He has published more than 80 journal papers and books, in addition to 60+ major conference papers. He manages research projects funded by EU FP7/H2020 (such as the EVANS, iCIRRUS projects), EPSRC (e.g., PANDA, PAL, DANCER), and industries such as British Telecom (e.g., MOSE). He serves on the editorial boards of both IEEE and non-IEEE journals (Wiley or Springer). He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a Fellow of IET.
